PRACTICE AREAS
Prior to taking up the active role of Managing Partner, Azmin Ali's practice areas included banking and finance, capital market and Islamic banking.

Since becoming Managing Partner, he continues to oversee the Banking & Finance, Islamic Finance and Corporate practice groups in the firm.

QUALIFICATIONS
Azmin Ali completed his tertiary education in the United Kingdom. He graduated with a BA (Hons) Law and was admitted as an Utter Barrister of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, having been called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1979. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1980.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
For several successive years since its 2002 edition until the present edition, Azmin Ali has been identified by the legal publication The Asia Pacific Legal 500: the Guide to Asia’s Commercial Law Firms as a Leading Individual Lawyer in the area of Banking & Finance in Malaysia. Additionally, he was recognized as one of the world’s experts in the practice area of Islamic Finance in the IFLR 2010: Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Experts in Islamic Finance. Syed Zaid was also nominated as one of the most highly recommended Asia-Pacific-focused lawyers in the practice area of Islamic Finance by Asialaw in its 2010 Asialaw Leading Lawyers Survey.

Azmin Ali is an appointed panel member of the “Panel of Inquiry of the Compensation Fund of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad”, a panel established pursuant to the Securities Industry (Compensation Fund) Regulations 1997 and the Securities Industry Act.

He previously served as a panel member of the “Law Review Committee for Islamic Banking” in Bank Negara Malaysia,which functions as a body to streamline and rationalize such Islamic Banking matters.

Additionally, he sits on the Board and audit committees as an independent director of 3 public listed companies, one of which is a government-linked company. Azmin Ali was also the Chairman of the Board of Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful Berhad, an Islamic insurance company from January 2007 to January 2009.

Besides these roles, Azmin Ali is the Secretary to the Perdana Leadership Foundation, which functions to research, document and publicise the intellectual legacies and contributions of Malaysia’s past prime ministers in the social, economic and political development of the nation so as to serve as a platform for the nation’s future development, policies, strategies and initiatives
